Weekly Update

Writing
I want to give a huge THANK YOU to all parents who showed up to join our informational book Expert Fair!  We had an awesome turnout.  Students loved a real audience and getting nice feedback on their books from loved ones!  I know you were just as proud as we were. Our next writing unit is the literary essay, and it's one of my favorites!  Students always do a fantastic job with this unit.  We will start this unit after Spring Break.  Until then, we are hitting grammar, mechanics, and homophones.

Reading
Students are continuing in their book club groups.  You can support book clubs at home by asking your child about their book and if they are keeping up with the assignments.  Take a look at some of the #booksnaps that students created this past week.

Math
This week in math, we are focusing on area and perimeter.  There will be an area and perimeter quiz this Friday!

Social Studies
In social studies, we are starting our unit on Westward Expansion and Lewis and Clark!  It is an exciting unit, and students will enjoy it.

Weekly Update

Writing

The due date for students' second informational book is this Tuesday, 3/6.  Students are almost finished and are publishing their books, making sure they are ready for our writing celebration this Friday in which YOU are invited!  See the details below!
Reading
Students are doing great in book clubs and are continuing to have amazing conversations about their books!  Some groups are nearing the end of their book!

Math
We are converting customary units of length, capacity, weight and time.  As a reminder, students need to have units of measurement memorized, and can use Quizlet to help in studying.  The username is Long-Leighton and the password is leighton.  The set to study is called, "Measurement- Length, Weight, Liquid Volume."  The Chapter 11 Test is this Thursday, 3/8.

Also, we watched this video to help us with capacity!  Some students even drew that G on their math sheet to help them!

Science
We will continue in our electricity unit.  We are finishing our circuit boards.  The Electricity Test is this Friday, 3/9. Don't forget that students can complete extra practice and extra credit activities on the online Science textbook: Pearson.
