Weekly Update

Writing/Spelling
Students did another awesome job in close reading the book "Fox" this past week!  Students also created their thesis statements for their essays, most related to a character or theme of the book.  For example, "Dog is a good friend" or, "Perseverance is a theme in the book 'Fox.'"  They have some amazing ideas!  The next Spelling test has been pushed back to Friday, April 21st.

Reading
In Reading we continue to meet in book clubs and reading groups.  We also continue to close read texts, looking for theme, author's craft, mood, vocabulary, figurative language, character traits, and more.

Math
The Chapter 12 Test on metric measurement is this Thursday, April 13th.  Students will receive the study guide tomorrow, and they can use the chart we used as a reference in class (below) on the test.  After this chapter, we will be reviewing all big topics taught this year!

Social Studies/Junior Achievement
We have finished reading about Missouri's resources and Missouri today.  We are working on a short Missouri project this week.  They are due next Tuesday, April 18th. This past week in our Junior Achievement lesson, we got to play a game called "Hot Dog Stand."  We kept track of money that we spent and money that we made with our business throughout the game.  Then we did the math to figure our profit or loss.  It was a lot of fun!

Other Important Info.
  • MAP Testing for fourth grade is currently scheduled for April 24th and 25th for ELA and May 1st-3rd for Math.  Although these dates are not likely to change much, there could be a small change made to the schedule as more information becomes available.   Please try not to make any appointments on these days.  Also, please make sure that students have their headphones available for testing.
  • There will be no school on Friday, April 14th.
