Weekly Update

Important Info.
  • MAP Testing for fourth grade students starts TOMORROW, April 24th, with ELA testing.  We will conclude the ELA portion of the test the following day on Tuesday the 25th.  Our Math portions of the test will run from May 1st-3rd. It is important that students get a good night's sleep these next couple of weeks and nice, healthy breakfasts in the mornings!  In addition, please make sure that students have their personal headphones available for testing.  Phones and other personal devices are not allowed in the testing room and will be locked up in a safe place during testing.
  • Field Day is Friday, May 19th.  This year we will have the parents lead the students from station to station and the teachers will be running the stations.  There will be 3 time slots to choose from: morning (8:30am-12pm), afternoon (12:30-3pm), or all day (8:30am-3pm).  Please use this link to sign upSignUpGenius
  • Make sure that you mark your calendars for some fun and upcoming events!  Long's Grant's Farm Night has been rescheduled to this Friday, April 28th (you may still use your parking pass)!  Our Cardinal's game night is May 31st!
  • On Monday, May 15th, we will head to the lead mines in Bonne Terre, Missouri for our final field trip!  Please make sure to turn in permission slips.

Writing/Spelling
We are working on our final drafts of our Fox essays!  It would be helpful for students to bring in their devices since our cart computers are being used for MAP testing throughout the building.  We will be taking a spelling test break until after MAP testing.

Reading
In Reading we continue to meet in book clubs and reading groups.  We also continue to close read texts, looking for theme, author's craft, mood, vocabulary, figurative language, character traits, and more.

Math
We are now reviewing all big topics taught this year and practicing math skills for the MAP test.  This includes long multiplication and division, fractions, solving multi-step word problems, geometry, etc.  Below students are playing a review game on a website they are coming to love called, Quizizz.

Junior Achievement/Science
We had our final Junior Achievement lesson this past week.  Students played a game where they had to trade resources with other groups/"countries."  In trading resources, they were able to build a (paper) computer.  And... Mr. Reinhardt surprised the students with Pretzel Boys!   The students had a blast.  Thank you very much for teaching us these past five weeks, Mr. Reinhardt!  We will be starting our last Science unit on forces and motion this week.  This unit has some fun labs!
